Röckenwagner Rocks

In times like these, it is imperative we shed light on the ways in which we can support one another, both as individuals and in business.

LA’s Röckenwagner Bakery recently partnered with County Line Harvest to facilitate home deliveries and pick up orders of farmers market fresh produce and a selection of their infamous daily-baked breads at a time when needed most.

A recent feature by Jamie Feldmar of the LA Times shares the incredible story of LA’s Röckenwagner Bakery and their response to an SOS plea sent out by County Line Harvest, a Coachella Valley Farm, on Instagram.

Reeling from the effects of Mayor Eric Garcetti’s decision to close bars and dine-in service at restaurants across Los Angeles in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus, County Line Harvest was gearing up for their busiest month and ready to distribute a carefully tended selection of produce including, baby lettuces, fine greens, vibrantly hued root vegetables and more to some of the city’s best restaurants. Unfortunately, a sudden change in produce orders left many to close their doors entirely and the farm found itself without customers.

When Hans Röckenwagner heard that County Line had fresh food but no way to get it to people, a lightbulb went off: “I thought, ‘We can do that,’” he said.

The bakery and storefront have now become a distribution hub for the farm. Röckenwagner placed an order for 250 produce boxes and will begin offering them, along with a selection of its own fresh-baked breads, for home delivery.

Röckenwagner and his wife and business partner, Patti, say they have infrastructure in place to lend assistance to other food businesses in Los Angeles that are hurting for distribution, as well as individual shoppers looking to avoid crowded stores with empty shelves.

Check out County Line’s website for the most up-to-date locations and call Röckenwagner Bakery to place your order of farmers market fresh produce and daily-baked bread at (310) 577-0747.

See below photos of Röckenwagner Bakery, a project we are so honored to have been a part of years ago. With minimal space and maximum impact in mind, Röckenwagner was comprised of sustainable materials, integrating aesthetics with sustainability, and different species of scrap and salvaged wood were used as basic construction materials.

These materials were locally sourced and kept raw to maintain the integrity of their natural structural and aesthetic beauty. Wood tones and textures were carefully selected to embody the handcrafted and artisan character of the bread loaves on display.

Remember, community is key and we are stronger together, today, tomorrow and always. Please support your local businesses.
